Ancient Monuments

As mentioned on the home page, Thailand has a rich history, with over 700 years as a unified nation and over 1,500 years of cultural development and social integration among peoples of various ethnicities. This is due to the fact that the Southeast Asia Region has been a trading and cultural crossroad between East Asia (principally China) and the West (principally India, but also The Middle East and Europe) for at least two millennia, and the land that is Thailand today lays strategically right in the middle of this region. In the course of that history, kingdoms have come and gone, leaving monuments that tell of their past grandeur and majesty: Dvaravati; Burman; ancient Khmers; Srivijaya; Lanna; Sukhothai; Ayutthaya; etc. Ancient monuments of these kingdoms can be found all across Thailand.
